In 2018, Rhys’ sister Claire and her husband Matt, lost their son Edward at only 3 days old.
Claire and Matt wanted to leave a lasting legacy for Edward and support the charity Forget Me Not.
Forget Me Not is a children’s hospice that supports children with life-shortening illnesses and their families, both in their hospice building and in families’ own homes.
Rhys wanted to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful organisation, and decided to take on the notoriously difficult challenge of the ROC in Abersoch. This 114k race, starting on Abersoch beach, heads up to the summit of Snowdon and back in the most breathtakingly scenic course the UK has to offer!
The challenge starts with a 2km swim, followed by a gruelling 50 km cycle, a run up to the summit of Snowdon and back down, another 50 km cycle back and 1 km beach run to the finish.
After intensive treatment for a back injury and intensive training with assistance from his physio, Rhys managed to successfully complete this incredible challenge.
He managed to come 26th out of 71 and was 15th fastest up Snowdon. Most importantly, he managed to raise over £2,000 for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.
